| FICTION: It costs too much to be a member. |
| FACT: Whether staff, faculty, or administrator, full-or part-time, you pay a $10 monthly fee and a one-time administrative fee of $10. Your dues cover use of facilities for meetings and meals. Doctoral students pay $5 monthly dues. If, when you retire, you've been an active member for the preceding 24 continuous months, you continue your membership with full privileges for life with no monthly dues. |
| FICTION: Lunch prices are too high. |
| FACT: We serve a daily buffet to members for $7.50 and nonmembers for $9.75. Think about it: You go to lunch at the Commons or Aztec Center or off campus at Jack in the Box, and what do you get and for how much? And consider the surroundings. Or you drive to a restaurant at noontime, and where do you park, and what do you pay, with tip? |
| FICTION: You must buy lunch to eat here. |
| FACT: Most do come to enjoy our lunches, but if you're a member, you're welcome to eat your bag lunch at designated tables in our lounge or on the patio. Also, we welcome you to join our regulars for breakfast at a $1 member discount. |
| FICTION: The Faculty-Staff Club is subsidized by the administration. |
| FACT: We are self-supporting and have never been subsidized by this or any administration. Although we provide an incomparable service to the University, the FSC is obliged to depend on membership dues, a modest endowment, and marginal profits to meet expenses. |
| FICTION: Only faculty are welcome, and mostly administrators eat here. |
| FACT: Half of our members are staff. |
| FICTION: I may not bring guests. |
| FACT: Non-member guests are always welcome at the FSC with or without members. Guests may be other SDSU employees, SDSU students, or visitors from off campus. Of course all guests will be charged regular prices without discounts. So remind your SDSU employee guests of the considerably lower price. |
| FICTION: The Faculty-Staff Club is just another Aztec Shops operation. |
| FACT: The FSC independently contracts with Aztec Shops. Our independence is our passion and our pride. We alone determine our prices, menus, and amenities, but only as limited by the University in its exclusive dealings with Aztec Shops, which provides the manager and student staff who are happy to serve you. |
| FICTION: The FSC food is nothing special. |
| FACT: We take pains to provide delicious, healthful restaurant food in a varied menu. Our monthly specials that feature various national cuisines give our chefs the opportunity to show off their talent. And no one has to walk away still hungry. If, however, you like lighter meals, our salads and dressings are fresh and offer healthy choices. |
| FICTION: No alcohol; too much alcohol. |
| FACT: We serve beer and wine. Moderately priced, moderately dispensed. |
